BTRF is committed to establishing a new conservation paradigm. It aims to foster and dynamically promote the planning, development and implementation of model conservation areas in Borneo, which will not only be embraced by the local communities directly concerned but also by the public and private sectors at large.

Rainforest: The Planetary Stakes

The world’s tropical rainforests, until recently at least, occupied just 2% of the surface of the planet (6% of the land surface) but contained 65% of the world’s biological resources.

The current rampant destruction of rainforest in Borneo is a biodiversity disaster of planetary proportions. Majestic gifts of creation, which took 50 to 100 million years to develop could be totally decimated in just 50 years of frenzied, largely uncontrolled exploitation.

12/01/07 - Malinau Regency and Global Eco Rescue sign MoU on Voluntary Carbon Market

The Jakarta Post reported today on the agreement signed between the Malinau Regency and Global Eco Rescue, Ltd.: “Meanwhile, the Malinau regency administration in East Kalimantan and London-based PT Global Eco Rescue Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding to protect forests through a voluntary carbon market.
